Aaron Schellenberg

May 7, 1929 ~ February 27, 2018 (age 88)

Aaron Schellenberg passed away February 27, 2018.

He leaves to cherish his memory, wife Susan of 67 years, daughter Dot (Ken) Sloik and son Andrew, sisters-in-law Barb Schellenberg, Kathy Isaak, Betty Klassen, Gertrude (Henry) Sawatsky , Evelyn Thiessen and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents Abraham and Aganetha (Neustaeter) and all his siblings. He was the youngest of a large family.

Aaron passed away at the same age, same month, half a century after his father.

He was born May 7, 1929 near Swift Current Sk. The family moved to the Bear Creek district southwest of Gladstone as a result of the “dirty thirties”. In 1951 he married Susan Klassen, 1963 moved to Portage la Prairie.

He enjoyed metal work, hence there were countless unconventional modifications and fabrications of farm equipment.  His favourite agriculture innovation was the big round baler.  But most of all he enjoyed taking care of livestock and pets. Dogs received whatever they desired whether a truck or quad ride, steak, ice cream or french fries at Nick’s at Headingly (just because the dog sniffed the air).

We would like to thank friends and relatives for their kindness and support with a special thanks to Fred Snyder, Bill, Jo and Chloe Pliszka , Teresa Wall of Portage Hearing Centre and those staff members of LPM that treated Dad and our family with understanding and kindness in his passing.

Respecting Aaron’s wishes there will be no funeral.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Aaron's memory to Portage Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), 121 12th St. NE, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 4A2.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  204-857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
