Peacefully in her sleep, my beautiful mother passed away at St. Boniface hospital on September 10, 2019 at the age of 70 years.
Left to treasure her memory is her loving husband Norman Wiebe of Portage la Prairie, son Greg Wiebe of Portage la Prairie, daughter Jennifer (Brian) of Anola. Grandchildren Jackie, Jessica, Khloe, Sumner and Emerson. Brother Robert (Terry) Spear of Winnipeg and sister Debra Spear of Thunder bay as well as numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
Predeceased by her father Leslie Irving Spear (1973), her mother Eva Spear (2012) and her brother Wayne Spear (2011).
Born in Russell, Manitoba, Maureen grew up in Roblin, attending Sacred Heart Academy in Yorkton for high school. She was an academic and carried her love of poetry throughout her life, often reciting long verses from Robert Service or Leonard Cohen. A strong willed, compassionate and generous person, Maureen loved family above all else. Nothing pleased her more than getting together for a story and a laugh. Falcon Lake camping being one of her favorite spots.
Mom was an elementary teacher for 35 years and her career spanned St. James- Assiniboia, Fort Garry and Portage la Prairie School Divisions. She worked at Victoria School since 1980. She was an excellent teacher who prioritized rapport with students and this was evident when even after they had graduated past students were always eager to greet her and share fond memories.
She was an avid traveler, living life to the fullest by travelling to many different countries. She was a collector. Her jewelry collection will be cherished by her grand children for years to come.
Mom loved adventures and her travelling will continue on this next adventure. Her legacy of love and kindness has passed onto the next generation. #love

Many thanks to the nurses, aides, and doctors on the 6th floor of St. Boniface Hospital. Despite a heavy workload, they took excellent care of mom and we are grateful for their kindness throughout this difficult time.
A big thanks to the Portage Hospital, many of the staff happened to be former students- you brought comfort to mom. Thank you.
