Alan McLean

February 3, 1939 — March 20, 2020

Peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2020 Alan “Al” McLean passed away at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 81 years.

He was predeceased by his parents Bruce and Nettie McLean, brother Neil, and brother-in-law Doug Gordon.

Al will be lovingly remembered by his children: daughter Jodi (Don) Brown, grandchildren Breanne, Kyle; son Clarke McLean, grandchildren Jenna and Colby; siblings Jessie Gordon, Edward (Diane) McLean and Sheila (Henry) Riendeau, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Alan was born and raised on the McLean Homestead Farm near Kenton, MB.  He attended the country school near where the family lived and then furthered his education at Kenton School.    Alan would have loved to have been a farmer but due to very bad asthma and allergies, farming was not an option.  He worked at several different types of jobs until he learned an engineering trade and was employed for 25 years with Union Carbide in Manitoba and Ontario. Once retired, he moved to Winnipeg where he continued to work at a variety of part time jobs as he was definitely too young and able to be idle.  He loved to be busy, loved to take long walks and enjoy nature, but also enjoyed a social life where he was often offering a few jokes or stories for others to enjoy his sense of humour.  These last few years of his life were a struggle for him but he certainly received the best of care at the Deer Lodge Centre.  Accolades to the very caring and well trained caregivers working in that facility as many of the patients/residents can be very demanding with complex needs. The cancer that suddenly appeared a few short months ago, managed to end his life here on earth and he has now found his peace that he so desired.

A private family burial will take place at a later date at Shiloh Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Al’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
