Alexander "Alex" Chambers

December 30, 1955 — July 20, 2020

After a hard-fought battle with cancer Alex Chambers passed peacefully with his wife Susan by his side in the early morning of Monday, July 20, 2020, 150 days after his stem cell transplant at HSC at the age of 64 years.

Alex will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 30 years Susan (nee Hotson), married Friday, April 13, 1990, and his son Christopher Chambers of Portage. Alex is predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Rosnah Chambers, brothers Lawrence “Larry” and Ronald “Ron” Chambers and brother-in-law Dan Hotson. He also leaves to mourn his brother David (Donna), sisters-in-law Carol Chambers and Marlene Chambers, all of Brandon, parents-in-law John and Irene Hotson of St. Marys, Ontario, brothers-in-law Jim (Mandy) Hotson of Fergus, Ontario, Bill (Janet) Hotson of St. Marys, Ontario, Denise Hotson of St. Marys, Ontario; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

Alex is the youngest of 4 boys, he was born in Carberry Manitoba on December 30, 1955. He lived his first 34 years in Austin attending public school there and high school in MacGregor. Alex worked for the Department of Highways Engineering for 39 ½ years and Portage Coop (now Homestead) for 10 years. In his younger years he sure enjoyed a good comic book and has a fairly large collection because of this. He did a fair bit of travelling over the years with his family and by himself and loved to go camping with Susan and Christopher.  When living at home he would not miss a chance to go for coffee with his Dad to JJ’s and then in Portage after he retired at MacDonald’s. You could fine him out for breakfast at the A&W before work. You can ask all the nurses he had at HSC and they will tell you his favorite saying is “Whatever” and he also had some great one liners for them. He loved a good game of crib especially with his Dad. Alex attended Highway Pentecostal Church and was a member of Legion here in Portage.

Alex will be buried at a later date at the Avonbank Cemetery in Ontario when Susan and Christopher can take him down there. Also, a celebration of Life for Alex will take place in the near future.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Alex’s memory to Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8 or Diabetes Canada (Manitoba), 401-1 Wesley Ave, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4C6.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
