Dennis Nodrick

August 31, 1953 — November 17, 2020

We regret to announce the passing of Dennis Nodrick on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at the age of 67 years.

Dennis was born (August 31, 1953), raised and went to school in Portage la Prairie. Over the years, Dennis left a lasting impression on so many with his sense of humour and genuine care for the people he knew.

Dennis will be sorely missed by his wife and closest friend Patty.

Dennis always said, his family was “complicated” and dared us to take a stab at listing everyone as we see fit, so here it goes: He had three sons Shaun, Darren (Courtney) and Owen. The Collett side of his family included Gram Owens, Jim, Sherrill, Kelly (Lou), Carol (Malcolm), Keegan, Bret (Josh) and Joey. His parents were Eileen, Stephen, Ron, Bill, and Doreen. His siblings were Yvonne (John), Charlotte (Ken), Vivian (Ed), Sharon (Garth), Linda (Garry), Bill (Bev). As well, “a thousand nieces and nephews”.

Dennis worked many jobs in his lifetime but was most proud of his career with the City of Portage Fire Department. He began as a volunteer in 1973 and retired in 2008 as Fire Chief.

His hobbies and interests were vast and included hunting, fishing, baseball, golf and travel (all seemed to involve a white rum and diet coke at some point). Holding a special place in Dennis’ heart was his life at Naegele’s Mallard Lodge, as well as the Portage Golf Club.

Dennis asked we pass along, “I had a wonderful time with many laughs and great memories with so many. You will all know who you are!"

Known for his quick-wit and ability to pull off a prank like no other, Dennis had an uncanny ability to bring a smile to your face - as did his buddy Rudy. We take comfort in knowing that they’re both off “to bigger and better”.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Flowers are gratefully declined. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Dennis’ memory to Portage Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), 121 12th St. NE, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 4A2.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
