Dennis Roy

August 7, 1948 — January 29, 2021

With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Dennis Wayne Roy, 72, on Friday, January 29th, 2021 at Portage General Hospital.

Left to treasure his memory is his loving wife of 50 years Allene Roy (nee Wright); his three children: daughter Carolyn (Bill) Peters, their children Tyson (Megan) with great-granddaughter Briar, and Bryce, son Geoff (Heather) Roy, their children Daylon, Jared, and Charlize and son Cody (Jennifer) Roy, their children Brennan and Kai. Along with his two siblings, Bill (Bev) and Rick (Agnes) Roy; four sisters-in-law Helen (Walter) Flamand, Edie Garrioch, Shirley Rapmund and  Jenny Roy; two brothers-in-law Bernie Wright and Ian (Lynne) Dark; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Predeceased by his parents Edward and Myrtle Roy;  two sisters Jean Archer and Lorraine Dark; one brother Lorne Roy; two nephews Blair and Sidney Roy; brothers-in-law Jerry Garrioch, Jim Wright and Wayne Archer and sister-in-law Allison Wright.

Dennis worked in construction most of his life, but his dream was always to have his own company. In 1972 he bought his first backhoe and named his company E. Roy and Son to honor his father. He went on to explore different aspects of the construction industry, and became involved with Romyn & Roy Ltd., Custom Asphalt, Mid-City Concrete, Cojef Ltd., and finally Mid City Aggregates which specialized in gravel crushing.

Dennis enjoyed working with many of his family members, and considered his employees to be family as well. As Dennis grew nearer to retirement, he enjoyed working for Northern Stone, where he could still be busy, but on a smaller scale, and have the time to work with his brother, Rick, and also to help pass on his knowledge to his grandson, Daylon. Another one of his great pleasures was being able to share offices with his boys, Geoff and Cody, for over 25 years.

Dennis could be described as a workaholic, but he truly loved and enjoyed his family. He cherished every vacation, birthday or Christmas spent with those he loved. He never minded driving all over the province to attend a hockey or ringette game. He was a quiet man with a cheeky sense of humour, and he will be greatly missed.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
