"White Eagle Woman"

With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Elsie Pashe on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 86 years.

She was predeceased by her husband Michael Pashe, parents Emma McKinney and Alex Swan and numerous other family members. Left to cherish Elsie’s memory are her children Steven Pashe, Dennis (Jocelyn) Pashe, Marjorie Prince, David Pashe, Sandra Pashe, Maurice Pashe, Ashley Pashe, Karl (Janet) Stone, Debra Pashe and Chris Pashe, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Elsie was born in Lake Manitoba, MB and married Michael Pashe. They raised a family of 10 children on Dakota Tipi First Nation where she resided the rest of her life. Elsie was a residential school survivor. She was a loving woman, who was always thoughtful and caring towards her children, grandchildren and their babies. She loved to visit with them when she could and attended many outings with them. Elsie loved traveling to different parts of the world when she was younger with her family.

A traditional woman who was a knowledge keeper of medicines, providing traditional medicines to the people. She was always there to help someone in need. Elsie was also a Sundancer and a pipe carrier who helped the people through praying for them and picking healing medicines. In her early years she leaned on the Lord and gave her heart to the Lord and was a believer and respected all religions and ceremonies.

She liked yard sales, attending pow-wows, feasts on our community, and attended all community events. She had a passion for collecting jewelry and also loved going for long drives and going on trips and enjoyed attending Sundances in South Dakota. She loved having company and feeding them and making coffee and tea during their visit and always had food ready for company to come. Elsie worked at Campbell Soup mushroom plant in her early years. Elsie lived her life to the fullest and loved her family and the people in it. Our mom was a selfless, compassionate, strong willed, genuine, loving and unique person who thought of others before herself and because of her qualities she touched many hearts. When one of her grand kids went to visit her, she always had sweets and gifts for the children. Her love was unconditional.

Private family services will be held with burial at Old Sioux Village Cemetery.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
