Glenn Waldvogel

November 9, 1936 — June 29, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father and grandfather on June 29, 2021.  Glenn passed away following a battle with cancer at the age of 84 years.

Glenn is predeceased by his parents Jack and Florence Waldvogel and his wife Rita Waldvogel. He leaves to mourn his three children; Gregg (Tracy) Waldvogel, Kim (Mel) Chizawsky, and Blair (Irene) Waldvogel.  Glenn was very fond of his six grandsons – Tanner, Zack, Derek, Alex, Jack and Leo – and his great grand-daughters Collins and Huntleigh.  Glenn will also be missed by his sister-in-law Donna Lowry (Ron) and 3 nieces – Brenda, Patti (Brian) and Pam (Eric) – as well as other extended family members and his many friends.

Glenn was born November 9, 1936 in Grahamdale, Manitoba; near his childhood home of Steep Rock, Manitoba.  After graduating high school, Glenn moved to Winnipeg to pursue employment opportunities.

Glenn started working with the CIBC in Winnipeg as a teller, and progressed over the years to Branch Manager. He met Rita at the CIBC (she also worked there) and they married in 1961.  Glenn and Rita relocated many times with the bank.  Glenn managed branches in many rural communities including Arborg, Humboldt, Dinsmore, Rockglen, Regina, Wadena, Killarney, and finally in Portage la Prairie.  Glenn had a very successful and rewarding career with the CIBC, and retired in 1993 after 37 years of service.

Glenn enjoyed all sports and was particularly active in curling and golf; being an active member of the Portage Golf Club. He was a life member of Kinsmen, and was also an active member, along with Rita, of the Good Shepherd Parish in Portage la Prairie.

Glenn very much enjoyed going to his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and never missed an event if he was available. He also enjoyed poker nights and morning coffees with his many friends.

At Glenn’s request, his remains were cremated and will be interred alongside Rita. Family will attend an outdoor service and interment at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens where Father Michael Savarimuthu will officiate. A celebration of life in Glenn’s honour will be held at a later date.

Special thanks to the Portage General Hospital staff and the Douglas Campbell Lodge for their wonderful care during Glenn’s illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Glenn’s memory to Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave E., Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0K8 or a charity of your choice.
