Kathleen Warren

February 9, 1923 — May 12, 2020

It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my dear Mum, Kathleen Warren at the Douglas Campbell Lodge on May 12, 2020 at the age of 97 years.

Kath was a generous, elegant, positive and deeply spiritual person who radiated love and kindness to all.

Kath was born in Hatfield, England on February 9, 1923.  She was a nurse at the Royal Free Hospital in London, England during World War II.  In 1945 her brother introduced her to his Canadian mate after they were released as prisoners of war.  It was love at first sight and in 1946 Kath bravely immigrated to Canada to marry William Charles Warren. Although their marriage was only for 12 years due to the effects of the war on Bill’s health, Mum stayed true to Dad for the rest of her life. After Bill’s untimely death, Kathleen was a homemaker, raising her three daughters.

Mum was an avid and energetic gardener. A  poetic and prolific letter writer, her correspondence nurtured and supported people the world over.  She served on the advisory board for the CNIB and was also an active and dedicated  member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, both at the local and Diocesan levels.  She served as camp nurse at the Anglican Summer Camp in Kenora, ON for many years where she was affectionately known as “Sam”.

Kath was predeceased by her husband Bill Warren, parents George and Edith (nee King)  Maddams, brothers Geoffrey (Eileen) and Stanley (Eleanor), sister Mary (Wilf), daughters Alison (Randy) Lindbloom and Gillian (Grant) Harkness and niece Frances.

She is survived by her daughter Jocelyn, grandchildren Kirsten (Linda) Lindbloom, Erika (Chris) Pearson, Scott (Laura) Harkness and Brianne (Raahim) Harkness and her treasured great grandchildren Jayme, Dustin, Emily, Tatyana, Alexis and Mercedes and nieces and nephews Paddy, Bob, Jill, Nancy and Ross.

I would like to sincerely thank the staff at ETU- Portage District General Hospital and the Douglas Campbell Lodge.  It was heartbreaking during the pandemic not to spend her last months with her but the staff at DCL gave her loving care.  A special thank you to Elsie for being a friend and caregiver to Mum.

Dearest Mum, until we meet again, thank you for the privilege of being your daughter.

A Celebration of Kath’s Life will take place at a later date.
