Lenard Wescoup

Lenard James Wescoup passed away tragically in his home at Long Plain First Nation on October 29, 2020 with his loved ones Jordan Prince and Shawntay Houle by his side.

Lenard Wescoup was born September 8, 1970 to Eva Lillian and Morley (Cott) Smith. He was a hard working father his whole life. Lenard really enjoyed helping seniors with their yard work and windows. Any kind of job that needed to be done he would do. Lenard enjoyed playing bingo and gambling for fun, he also liked watching the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Games. Lenard always made sure his wife and kids were taken care of. He worked for years to accomplish his dream of getting his own vehicle. Lenard mentioned to his daughter that he prayed to God that if he got his license back and a vehicle, he wouldn’t refuse to help the ones who needed it.  Once he did get a vehicle, he was always helping his friends and family with rides. After awhile, he ended up helping some of his children with licenses and a vehicle. He was always a loving and caring person who always had something nice to say. Lenard was always a man of God, he had two of his he had two of his favorite gospel CD’s in his vehicle that he would play all the time. Lenard was always pushing people to their very best.

Lenard leaves behind his ex-wife Michelle Prince of 15 years who shares six children and 12 grandbabies. He also leaves behind three unborn grandbabies on the way, one baby girl who is going to be born on November 7, 2020 and the two others will be born in 2021 from Marissa Prince and Shawnty Houle. Lenard also leaves behind his nine loved children, Alyssa Prince, Marissa Prince, Michael Prince, Raeissa Prince, Jamie Wescoup, Jason Benn, Hapa Wescoup and Nathan Hi-Eagle, grandchildren Asia Prince, Tatyanna Alvarado, Mckenzie Prince, Malikai Prince, Dominic Prince, Dheckin Prince, Jeremiah Harper, Josiah Prince, Nia Peters, Viola Peters and Kailani Peters and siblings Richard Wescoup (Riki), Chris Wescoup, Patricia Chocken (Richard), Wilma Wescoup and Sylvia Wescoup.

Lenard was predeceased by his brothers Jason Wescoup, Sonny Merle Wescoup and Ben Wescoup.

Wake will take place at the Long Plain Spirit Lodge on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 4:00 pm. Christian Services will be held at the Long Plain Spirit Lodge on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Burial to follow at Long Plain Cemetery.

Covid-19 restrictions will be in place and a maximum of 50 people will be allowed in the Spirit Lodge.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.
