Mandy Moose

January 17, 1985 — January 25, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, daughter, sister, niece, granddaughter, cousin and friend Mandy. Mandy was very charismatic and cheerful, and in her presence you were not sad for long. Her laugh was infectious, and you always wanted to be around her warmth. She had a way of turning a difficult situation into something funny and manageable.

Mandy was born in The Pas, MB on January 17, 1985; the world was in need of a warm heart on such a cold day. As a child, Mandy was very mischievous and fiercely protective of her loved ones. She enjoyed playing in the bush with her brothers and cousins, building forts and learning from the land. She was inseparable from her brother Raymond and cousin Jennifer, they were always getting in and out of trouble together. As a young girl, she was skilled in her beading, art and burning bologna, just kidding about the bologna, that was one time. She spent many weekends with her cousins and friends having epic sleepovers and making good memories. Most of her childhood was spent in The Pas, Cranberry, Flin Flon and Brandon. Cranberry was where she met her best friend, the tall blonde Charmaine, and they were joined at the hip ever since. If you were fortunate enough to know Mandy as a child, you would have known a feisty, beautiful, spirited girl who could make you laugh so hard your belly ached.

In her teenage years, Mandy moved south to live with her mom Lena in Portage la Prairie. Here she made many more friends and spent lots of time with her southern cousins and aunties. As a teenager, Mandy loved her cat Mooch, listening to hip-hop music and visiting her friends. She also went North often, and would refer to her home province as “Mandy-toba” because she knew it so well.

As a young adult, Mandy became a mother. She fiercely loved her children, near and far. Gia, Malachi, Farrah and Hunter were her world, she was so proud of them and worked incredibly hard to give them a good life. If she was not planning birthday parties or phoning aunties for recipes to cook for her kids, she was saving up for their next little adventure. When she settled in Portage la Prairie again, she decided to finish high school to set a good example for her children, and graduated from The Learning Center on June 22, 2012. She had found her calling when she began to work at Dakota Tipi Daycare. Being able to take her youngest to work and being in the community brought a positive new energy to her life. Soon enough she was enrolled in Early Childhood Education courses, all of her previous hard work was coming to fruition and her future was bright.

Mandy passed away suddenly on the morning of January 25, 2021 in Portage la Prairie. She will be remembered for her kind heart, joyful laugh and unconditional love. Mandy walks into the loving arms of those who went before her: grandparents Lyna and Thomas Moose, Walter and Lorraine Sanderson and Dale Hedley, uncles Jerry Cook, Stanley Cook, Jim Cook, Willie Prince and Robert Brightnose, aunties Mary Prince, Martha Moose, Delores Charlette and Brenda Brightnose, cousins Tyson Moose, Carla Prince, Jarrid Charlette and Casey Michelle.
