Mildred Simpson

August 31, 1923 — November 22, 2019

Peacefully, with family by her side, Mildred Simpson passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Lions Prairie Manor at the age of 96 years.

Mom was born in Winnipeg to Agnes and William Causley.  Tragically, her parents passed away, but Mildred was lovingly adopted by John and Mary Carscaden of La Riviere, Mb.  Mildred and her family later moved to Portage where she attended Mt. Pleasant School.  At the age of 18 she met the love of her life George Alexander Simpson.  They were married in December of 1941 and Mildred and Alex had three boys Terry, Earl and Bill.  They lived in the Poplar Bluff District and enjoyed a long life of farming, family and friendship.  She and Alex spent time golfing and traveling in their later years visiting family.

Mom’s passion was gardening.  She spent countless hours in her vegetable and flower gardens tending her plants.  She was an avid member of the horticulture club and instilled her love of growing things in her grandchildren.  Mom always had cookies in her cupboards and time to spend teaching her grandchildren to cook.  You could find her bringing meals to the fields; holding onto a horse; helping train 4-H steers or just racing across the yard with kids.  Mildred was a member for 40 years with the Ruth Rebekah Lodge #3 and volunteered her time there.  She and Alex spent their later years at Oddfellows Towers and had many wonderful friendships.

Mildred is predeceased by her husband Alex Simpson; sisters Thruda and Jean; grandson Trevor Alexander and great-grandson Cody; birth parents Agnes and William Causley; parents John and Mary Carscaden and brothers Bert, Ron, Gordon, Ivan and Russel.  Mildred is survived by her son Terry (Bernice); son Earl (Bonnie); son Bill; daughter-in-law Kathy; adoring grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

A private family service will be held on Saturday, November 30. 2019, with interment taking place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate in Mildred’s memory can do so to the Community Foundation of Portage & District, 206 Saskatchewan Ave East, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K9.
