Phyllis Love

October 26, 1924 — May 3, 2019

Peacefully, with her family by her side, Phyllis Love passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019 at the St. Claude Health Centre at the age of 94 years.

Left to cherish Phyllis’ memory are her children Marilyn (Jay) Byfield, Doug (Lynne) Love and Colleen (Wayne) Gardiner, grandchildren Bobbi-Jo (Derek), Brandi (Geoff), Tara, Roxann (Dale), Dana (Curtis) and Holly (Tyler), great-grandchildren Carter, Hadley, Audrina, Kaitlyn, Rebecca, Alexa, Jase, Hunter and Colt, sisters-in-law Doreen Dow and Shirley Love and special caregiver and friend Tara Zatina as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Geordie, parents James and Annis (nee Bailey) Dow, sister Dorene (Bill) Clark and twin brother Doug Dow.

Phyllis was born on the family farm near Macdonald, MB on October 26, 1924, daughter of James and Annis (nee Bailey) Dow. She was a younger sister to Dorene, and a twin to brother Doug. She grew up on the family farm and attended old West Oakland School and later attended high school in Macdonald, MB.

Phyllis married George Love on November 29, 1949 and they resided in Oakland. ‘Geordie’ had started a transfer company, later known as Love’s Transfer, prior to their marriage and they continued operating the transfer company until 1977 when they went into farming. Phyllis was very involved with raising the children and was a founder and leader of the Oakland 4-H club for many years while the children were growing up. She was a member of the United Church at Oakland and was involved in their various fundraising events throughout the years, as well as being a member of the IOF (International Order of Foresters) and was on their ladies drill team for a number of years. Phyllis was an avid curler and travelled throughout the area bonspieling with her many friends. After she hung up her broom, she continued to enjoy watching curling on TV.

Phyllis’ passions were fishing and camping, her flowers, casinos and her family. She loved to watch her granddaughters enjoy their passions, whether it be showing cattle or rodeoing. Phyllis also liked to travel, especially cruising, and later casino bus tours throughout the area and into the states. Phyllis enjoyed knitting and kept her granddaughters supplied in mitts and scarves every winter.

After the death of her husband Geordie in 1995, she remained in Oakland until 2002 when she moved to Portage la Prairie, MB. In May 2018 her health deteriorated and she entered the Portage Hospital. In October of the same year, she was transferred to St. Claude Transitional Care Unit, where she remained until she passed away.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Trinity United Church, Portage la Prairie, MB led by Rev. Julie Baker. Private family interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
