Waylon Assiniboine

With family standing by his side, we would like to announce the sudden passing of Waylon Assiniboine at the Health Science Centre at the age of 42 years.

He was predeceased by his loving grandparents Harvey and Agnes Assiniboine and Chaske and Tiyou Smoke, beloved uncles Wesley Assiniboine, Floyd Assiniboine, Lawrence Smoke, Stewart Smoke, Ernie Smoke, Arnotte Smoke, Raymond Smoke and Gordon Smoke, brother Vince Assiniboine and niece Shashoni Assiniboine.  Waylon is survived by his loving partner Lisa Mason, mother Valerie Assiniboine (Ralph), father Ronald Smoke, brothers Travis (Sereen) Assiniboine, Marshall Assiniboine and Ronald Smoke Jr., sisters Chasity, Farrah (Chris), Desiree (Andrew), LeeAnne Pashe, Lisa Pashe, Wanita French and Ramona Beeds, uncles Clemance (Eunice), Cecil Paul (Lena), Orville (Rosalind)Smoke and Lesley (Elaine) Smoke, auntie Yvonne Peters, brother-in-law Coddy Monias.

Waylon was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin, he will never be forgotten and will always be in our hearts. He attended PCI until he left to take care of his Uncle Floyd. Waylon won many awards for the wonderful job he did taking care of his uncle. Waylon was an Ojibway Sundancer.  He loved music, hockey, concerts just to name a few.  Waylon;s favourite hockey team was the Winnipeg Jets.  He loved his cousins Kevin and Vanessa Asiniboine very much, along with his nieces and nephews.  Waylon worked at many farms as a farmhand, at Rez radio as Disc Jockey,and he also took the family support worker program at Long Plain.

Traditional Wake will take place at Long Plain Spirit Lodge on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 4:00 pm.  Traditional Feast and Service will be held at Long Plain Spirit Lodge on Thursday, January 16, 2020 beginning at noon followed by burial at Long Plain Cemetery.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
