After a short illness with cancer, with her family at her side, Lena Meier, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 81 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Alfred “Red” Meier of Portage la Prairie; sons Mitchell (Kenia) Meier of Nanaimo, BC, with grandchildren Jesse, Jorde and their mother Shelly Tolmie and grandson Lester, Dean (Pam) Meier of Calgary, AB with grandchildren Adam (Erin) and Kristen, Preston (Linda) Meier of Portage la Prairie, MB, with grandchildren Joshua, Jodee and Justis, as well as 2 great grand-children, Sheridan & Callum. Lena is also survived by two brothers, two sisters, as well as 2 brother in-laws and 2 sister in-laws on Red’s side along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, George & Sophie Paley, six brothers, seven sisters and one brother-in-law on dad’s side.

Lena and Red were married in 1958; they were to celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary this October.  Mom was proud of her 20 years at MDC where she retired in 1998. In her retirement, she enjoyed crocheting, gardening and macramé.  Lena was a very loving, strong minded woman.  Above all she loved spending time with her family.

In keeping with Lena’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal funeral services will be held.  A private family interment will take place at a later date.
