Abraham "Abe" Shapansky

April 14, 1933 — February 23, 2026

Peacefully on February 23, 2026, after a short illness, Abe Shapansky of MacGregor, Manitoba passed away at the age of 92 years to be with his Lord and Saviour.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Sandra, Maxine, Heather, Hugh, and Janice, as well as their families. Left to cherish his memory is Isabel Graham, his special companion of many years who became a treasured part of the family.

Dad lived his life to the fullest every day. He loved meeting new people and talking to them. He especially enjoyed volunteering and feeling like he was helping people. He enjoyed music and played a mean harmonica. He also loved singing and never forgot the words to his favourite songs. Abe and Isabel discovered a love for traveling and took many road trips together.

Dad was known for his love of animals. Horses were always an important part of his life, and he was always hitching up a team to pull anything and everything - whether it was pulling a car out of the ditch or driving a chariot around a racetrack. Abe's family enjoyed many a hayride and sleigh ride with horses proudly driven by Papa. Abe loved horseback riding and even rode in the Calgary Stampede Parade at the age of 80.

Abe is predeceased by his parents, Jakob and Katharina, as well as 12 siblings. He is also predeceased by Helen Shapansky, the mother of his five children, and son-in-law Dave Hum.

A private celebration of Abe's life will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff of Douglas Campbell Lodge for their kind and compassionate care while Abe resided there.

In lieu of flowers, donations to STARS Air Ambulance would be gratefully appreciated, as this was a cause close to Abe's heart.

Absent from the body, present with the Lord. Hallelujah - what a Saviour!

A tree will be planted and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com 204-857-4021
