Alexis Unrau

October 16, 1987 — June 11, 2019

At the very young age of 31 years old, Alexis Unrau passed away on June 11, 2019.

She is survived by her parents Jim and Dawn Unrau; one sister and brother-in-law Allison and Jon Moore; niece and nephew Emma and James; grandpa Bill Sinclair; partner Gabe; as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Visitation and viewing will take place on Monday, June 17, 2019 from 7:00 to 8 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, 56 Royal Road South, Portage la Prairie, MB.  A celebration of Alexis’ life will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the Herman Prior Centre, 40 Royal Rd N, Portage la Prairie, MB.

Alexis was born on October 16, 1987.  She was a special baby right from birth; she was born with a front tooth and one blue eye and one green eye.    She attended school at Crescentview with completion of her high school at Arthur Meighen.  Alexis attended the University of Manitoba where she achieved 2 degrees – one in Criminology and then finished the top of her class with an Honors Psychology Degree.  She was published in a Psychology journal for her research findings on primary and secondary psychopathy – a feat that few undergraduates ever achieve.  Alexis won a number of awards at the University of Manitoba.

She was currently employed full-time with the City of Winnipeg and worked part-time for a Clinical Psychologist. This fall, Alexis would have been attending Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC (one of the top ranking universities in the world for Clinical Psychology).  She was awarded full scholarships for the next 4 years to pursue post-graduate studies which was based on her GPA of 4.5 (the highest attainable GPA).

Alexis loved going to the gym and she was particularly in her glory when she was weight-lifting.  She loved bench-pressing and dead-lifting weights.  She had a special connection to all animals, birds, and reptiles, even though she had several pet allergies.  Alexis adored her sister and brother-in-law who became more like a brother to her and of course her little niece and nephew.  She loved to be silly and make people laugh.  Even though she achieved so much; she remained humble and modest with few friends and family aware of her accomplishments.  Alexis was always a strong support person to everyone else with a good listening ear.

Although we are broken as a family, Alexis will forever be our Angel.  She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and partner Gabe.

REST IN PEACE OUR LOVE.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Alexis’ memory to Canadian Mental Health Association - Manitoba, 930 Portage Avenue
