Allan McLennan

Peacefully, with his family by his side, on Friday April 19, 2019 Allan McLennan of Portage la Prairie, MB passed away at the age of 78 years.

Allan was one of 20 children born to John and Sarah McLennan. He was born and raised in the Portage la Prairie district, and went to Victoria School until grade eight, when he left to work on Harry Roberts’ farm. Allan met his wife Helen there when he was 19 - she was his first girlfriend, and Allan was her first boyfriend. They married two years later, and were married for 57 years. Together they raised two children, Barbie and Leslie. Allan worked for Harry Roberts, hauled bales across Canada & the USA, worked for Carberry Transfer, and then worked for the R.M. of Portage la Prairie until his retirement.

Allan loved sharing his birthday with his granddaughter Heaven. He loved to hunt and fish in his younger days, and he enjoyed putting in a garden and keeping it weed free. He loved to tinker on vehicles and restore old machinery with his brothers. Allan also loved watching hockey, and he loved his little dog Teddy.

Allan was predeceased by his parents, and all of his siblings except Everett (Pauline)McLennan of Duncan BC, and Betty Espenell (Cathy) and Marge Finlayson of Portage, MB.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Helen of Portage, MB, children Barbie Nelson (Rob McMann) of Elm Creek, MB and Leslie (Jackie) McLennan of Long Plain, MB, grandchildren Alex (Melissa), Katrina (Dylan), Nicolas, Heaven and Harmony, as well as great-grandchildren Elijah, Rosalie, Alexander, Raeleigh and another on the way.

Allan’s family would like to thank the staff at Portage District General Hospital for taking great care of Allan.

A time of visitation will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 26, 2019 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Allan’s memory to Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 E Saskatchewan Ave., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8.
