Ozaawi Aanakwad (Yellow Cloud)
It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Allan Robert Perswain, Ozaawi Aanakwad (Yellow Cloud), on October 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Allan was born on April 16, 1965.
Allan leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Denice; children, Blake, Tanner, Payton, Shane, and Kyle; grandsons Kingdon and Jaxson; and godson Max.
He will be deeply missed by his siblings Andy, Arlene, Vince, Sandra, Roger (Michelle), Peter (Monica) and David; nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and many extended relatives from Long Plain First Nation and Sandy Bay First Nation.
Allan will also be lovingly remembered by the Soldier Family from Swan Lake First Nation, as well as his close friends Dennis and Michelle Meeches, Ken and Carrie McKay, Shawn and Victoria McKay, Wes and Loretta Roulette, Dwayne and Julie Soldier, Derek and Cheryl Meeches.
Allan will be fondly remembered for his camping expertise and hence why we called him our “Camp Foreman”. He was known for creating beautiful campfires and feeding us his delicious fish fry.
He was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Mary (nee Beaulieu) Perswain, and his brother Justin Harris.
Allan spent his early years on Long Plain First Nation. From a young age, he developed a passion for fixing classic cars, as well as hunting and fishing—interests that remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Allan attended school in Portage la Prairie before graduating from Crocus Plains Regional High School in Brandon, Manitoba. Following high school, he entered the Manitoba Hydro Apprenticeship Program in conjunction with Yellowquill College. This began what would become a lifelong and rewarding career with Manitoba Hydro as a journeyman lineman.
Throughout his 34 years with Manitoba Hydro, Allan worked in many communities, including St. Claude/Portage la Prairie, Virden/Souris, Thompson, Island Lake, and Winnipeg. He took great pride in his work and in the many friendships and connections he made throughout his career. After 34 years of dedicated service, Allan retired from Manitoba Hydro.
Retirement, however, did not mean slowing down for Allan. He was never one to simply sit and do nothing. He continued to keep busy and later gained employment with the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Winnipeg, where he worked as Maintenance Manager. Allan was always willing to lend a helping hand and could often be counted on whenever someone needed him.
Family was at the centre of Allan’s life. He and Denice, along with their children, were avid camping enthusiasts. They enjoyed many wonderful years together camping throughout Manitoba, creating memories that will be treasured by his family for generations to come.
As there are many numerous people to mention a very special and heartfelt acknowledgement to all his close friends while working with Manitoba Hydro, Wyndham Garden Hotel and childhood/high school buddies. Allan loved and respected you all and spoke highly of the friendships he created over the years.
Allan was a hardworking man with a generous heart who believed in keeping busy, helping others, and being there for the people he cared about. His love for his family, his strong work ethic, his sense of community, and the many memories he created with those around him will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
May he rest peacefully, surrounded by the love of those who will carry his memory forward.
