With great sadness we announce the passing of Alvin Ogilvie of Portage la Prairie, MB, on May 1, 2026 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 66 years.
Alvin was born to Edna Ivy and Robert Maurice Ogilvie on July 23, 1959. Alvin is survived by his brother Tim (Jo-Anne), sister Noreen and brother Dennis (Chris). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Charles and Sandy.
Alvin was a solid fixture in Portage and knew a lot of the residents. He was very active in playing sports in his younger days and later in life he enjoyed helping teams out whether it be hockey or baseball. He was selected to run with the Olympic Torch at the 2010 Winter Olympics, which was certainly a highlight for him.
Special thanks goes out to the nurses and doctors at the Portage Hospital and all the staff at Lions Prairie Manor for their care and support to Alvin. Also, a big thanks to his nephew Cameron and his family who live in Winnipeg for all their love, support and being there for Alvin. We feel it comforted Alvin in his last days.
A celebration of Alvin’s life will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026 at 2:00 pm at River Road Gospel Hall.
As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made in Alvin’s memory to the Community Foundation of Portage & District – Sports and Recreation Fund, 206 Saskatchewan Ave East, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K9.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
