Arlene Denise Spence (nee O'Reilly)

May 14, 1958 — January 30, 2024

It is with heavy hearts the family of Arlene Denise Spence (nee O’Reilly) announce her passing January 30, 2024, with family by her side, after a short battle with Cancer.

Arlene was born May 14, 1958 and raised in Portage la Prairie. This is where she met the love of her life Gerald (Phillip) Spence and they were married on July 30, 1983. Arlene selflessly devoted her life to her family. She had a huge heart and was always willing to help the people she loved. Not surprisingly, this led her to a 25+ year career as a health care aide at the Lions Prairie Manor. She also loved being outside, whether it was gardening, working on her yard, or at the beach. She especially enjoyed going for rides out south with Gerald.

Arlene was the glue that held our family together, she always said her biggest achievement and happiness was her family. She will be missed dearly.

Arlene was predeceased by her parents Frank and Victoria (nee Bulback) O’Reilly, one brother Terry O’Reilly, and one grandson Justyce Crier.Left to remember Arlene is her husband of 40 years, Gerald Spence, sons Derek (Ashleigh) Spence and Darren Spence, stepdaughters Daphne Spence and Terri-Lee Spence, stepson Chris Spence, 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, brother Craig O’Reilly,  sister Shelly (Howie) Beirnes (nee O’Reilly), brothers-in-law Ron (Cathy) Christensen and Larry (Linda) Spence, sisters-in-law Leisa Miness (nee Spence) and Karen (Terry) O’Reilly, as well as nieces, nephews, and close friends.

As per Arlene’s wishes there will be no formal funeral service. There will be a private family gathering.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sunset Palliative Care, 40 Royal Rd N, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1V1 or Cancer Care Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave. Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
