William Thomas Barry McNaughton

On Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the Portage District General Hospital, Barry McNaughton passed away at the age of 85. He will be loved and remembered by his wife of 61 years Muriel (née Dickey); daughter Kim (Chad) Sheppard; grandson Taylor Sheppard, granddaughter Teagan Sheppard; sisters Lois Kinsman, Joyce Simpson, Pat Leclair, Kay (Bob) Murphy, and Shirley (Ken) Delorme; sister-in-law Joy Gill; and his many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was predeceased by parents Thomas and Alice; mother-in-law Bessie Dickey; son Scott, sister Joan Gulay; brother, Les; brothers-in-law Bill Gill, Romeo Leclair, Andy Gulay, Gordon Kinsman, and Casey Simpson.

Barry was born on October 22, 1940, in Morden, MB. He received his early education in Brandon, St. Claude, and Roseisle. He went on to work for Canada Safeway for 18 years, as well as Custom Home and Leisure, Portage Curling Club, Morden Foodland, and Carmen Meats, making many friends along the way.

Barry had many interests in his life. In earlier years, he enjoyed baseball, curling, and the Kinsmen Club. Later, his interests included hunting, fishing, golfing, snowmobiling, hobby farming, and harness racing. He was a dedicated member of the Manitoba Harness Horsemen Inc. and served as president for many years. His love for horses started at an early age and continued throughout his whole life. Barry and Muriel enjoyed spending their winter holidays by travelling to Florida for over 10 years and, more recently, enjoyed camping with family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Portage District General Hospital for all the kindness and care they gave to Barry.

Interment of ashes will take place on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 10:30 am at the Miami Cemetery, Miami, MB. Followed by a funeral service at the Knox United Church in Oakville, MB. At 2:00 pm. Luncheon to follow at the Oakville Community Centre. The service will be live streamed and may be viewed by registering at the link below.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oakville Community Centre or a charity of your choice.
