1936-2016

Peacefully on Friday, November 25th, 2016, Bart passed away in his home in Portage la Prairie, MB surrounded by his family and companion Georgie Gillespie.

Bart was predeceased by his parents James and Elsie; brother George; sister Alma; wife Linda; daughter Marie and sons Don and Garrel. He is survived by his brother Doug; children: Jan (Don) , Robert (Nicole), Sharon (Jim), Terry (Deidra), Karen (Owen), Darlene (Gord), Ed (Shaunee); step child Wade; grandchildren; Rain, Kris, Candice, Jacqueline, Andrea, Brittney, Jasmine, Matthew, Tegan, India, Morgan, Mathew, Scott, Kaitlyn, Emily, Nathan, Shai; step-grandchildren: Danny, Chelsea, Brittany, Hayley, Kayla; great-grandchildren; Aidan, Avery, Aiden, Liam, Max, Chloe, James, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bart retired from Bart's Garage the family business in 2001.  He loved farming, especially his herd of Black Angus cattle, woodworking and making gifts for his family. Bart enjoyed many hours playing music with family and friends, and will be remembered by many for his talent on the fiddle.  He was also a pilot and proud to wear his "Wings".  Family was the most important thing to him and he will be deeply missed by them.

The family wishes to express their heart felt appreciation to Dr. Carter and Debbie from Santé Sud Southern Health Pallative Care, for their compassion and care and the home visits that enabled him to remain at home for his final days. And to Georgie for her love, commitment, and her kindness towards dad, and for allowing us to spend as much time as possible with him these final days.

A private family service will take place.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bart’s memory to Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
