Brandon James Smoke

With sadness we announce that Brandon Smoke began his journey to the Spirit World on May 7, 2025 at the age of 30 years.

Left to mourn his passing are his children Camden Peters, Ivory Smoke and Kyrie Smoke and their mother Shadix Traverse all of Long Plain, parents Edward Houle of Winnipeg, and Candy Smoke of Long Plain, siblings Nicholas of Portage, Jade (Jaimie) of Long Plain, Alexander, Nyya (Taylor), Sebastian and Sebryna, all of Winnipeg, grandma Doris Daniels of Long Plain, special niece that he was close to Jassiah Smoke, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his grandmother Charlotte Joan Assiniboine, grandfathers Edward Houle Sr., Richard Allen Smoke and Bob Chartrand, as well as special friend Shanna Peters.

Brandon was born August 11, 1994 at the Women’s Pavillion in Winnipeg, bringing such joy and happiness into the family. As a child, he was an avid explorer, getting into all kinds of mischief.

He was a gamer, always playing with his cousins and friends on-line. He was happiest the most when he was with his children and nieces and nephews whom he loved unconditionally. He was an excellent father. He loved quadding and fishing with his brother Nicholas. He loved taking selfies and pictures with the kids in the family and whoever he was with at the time. He enjoyed skating, going to the beach and sitting around the fire visiting with family and friends. He also liked to play poker and slots, where he would double up his money and walk away happy.

Brandon was very close to his late Grandma Joan, who he lived with for a number of years. It was very devastating for him when she passed.

He was very well respected and liked by everyone he knew.

Wake will begin at 4:00pm on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Long Plain Spirit Lodge, Feast & Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 12:00 noon at the Long Plain Spirit Lodge. Burial will follow at Dauphin Myerion Cemetery.
