"Kind caring woman"

With her family by her side, Brenda Meeches entered the Spirit World on July 23, 2026, at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 63 years.

Left to cherish her memory is her partner Ernest “Ken” Roulette; children Brian (Amber), Michelle (Justin), Crystal (Axel) and Stacey (Brett); grandchildren Braiden, Seville and Memphis (Brian’s), Brooklyn, Carter, Bailey and Angelina (Crystal’s) and Sophie, Draven, Ruby and Enid (Stacey’s); siblings Daryl, Sandra, Arlene, Randal and Sherry (Dean); sister-in-law Peggy along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

She was predeceased by her grandchildren Victoria and Malachi; mother Lena Meeches; father David McKinney; special aunt Emma McKinney, who she took as her mother; step-dad Cecil Paul; siblings Kimball, Sharon, Darren, Larry, Kerry and Freida.

Brenda was born in Portage la Prairie and was raised in Long Plain. She spent a lot of time with Darren at aunty Emma’s residence. In her teenage years she started venturing away from Long Plain, hitchhiking to Winnipeg with Laura (Fifi) Francis. In her late teens she met the father of her four children in Winnipeg. In 1994 she moved back to Portage la Prairie where she met her partner Ken with whom she resided for 32 years.

Brenda was a kind, soft hearted woman (hence her traditional name). She enjoyed going to church services and reading her bible. She loved thrifting and garage saling. She took care of her brother Darren until his health condition worsened and he was hospitalized for palliative care. Brenda enjoyed listening to music, loved playing her game; Grand Theft Auto. She was very matriculate with her clothing and makeup. She loved signing karaoke. Brenda liked feeding wild life; birds, stray cats, rabbits and the deer at Island Park. She loved decorating her home for every holiday throughout the year. Everyone that knew Brenda knew she had a sweet tooth and loved her sweets and coke.

Special thanks to Long Plain Chief and Council and the Portage District General Hospital.
