Daniel Edward Matthews

It is with heavy hearts and a sea of tears that we announce the passing of Daniel “Dan” Matthews on October 22, 2026 at Health Sciences Centre at the age of 43.

Dan is survived by his partner and love of his life Rayanne Striemer, children Brooke and Beckem Matthews, stepchildren, Luke, Emma and Jasmine Striemer (Isaiah), grandchildren Brynleigh, and Paisley Myron, mother Jacqueline Hanna, father Scott Matthews, brother John Matthews - Isabelle and Stephanie, sister Alicia Matthews - Walker, Jackson, and Shay, sister Janette (Bryce) Nelson - Landen, Caleb, Zane, and Hayden, grandmother Marion Cooper and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Dan was predeceased by his baby sister Amanda, grandparents Jack Cooper, John (Ted) and Isabel Matthews, uncle Joe Cooper and sister-in-law Jennifer Matthews.

Dan was born in Gimli MB on April 7, 1983 the second of 5 children. Dan grew up in the MacGregor area and attended elementary and high school there. He played minor hockey for years and loved it. He spent many happy hours on the farm of his grandparents Ted and Isabel. He had many adventures there. He loved the quiet country life and had hoped to move there one day with Rayanne. He loved to fish with his Pops and his brother John. He hunted with his uncle Steve, cousins and friends. Dan enjoyed golfing, playing cards, watching movies, and listening to music. Dan’s passion was cooking and hosting meals for family and friends. There was always a cookbook close by that he had been reading.

Dan had an amazing sense of humor. He kept you wondering at times if he was serious or if it was a joke. He was a positive person; he radiated joy and happiness that was infectious to all around him. His kindness and compassion for other people were truly endless. He had a heart of gold, always caring for others and offering love and understanding without expecting anything in return.

Some of the happiest times in Dan’s life were the birth of his two children Brooke and Beckem. He enjoyed spending time with them, he always had the silliest dad jokes. Birthdays, Christmas’, and Brooke’s recent graduation, and hockey with Beckem brought great joy to Dan’s life. He was so proud of his children.

A celebration of life will be held for Dan on Wednesday, November 4, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the MNP Building on Island Park in Portage la Prairie.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dan’s memory to the Bruce Oak Recovery Centre, 255 Hamilton Ave. Winnipeg MB R2Y 2C3.
