With great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dante Peters April 6, 2026 in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 19 years.
He was deeply missed by his father Kevin Peters, as well as his grandparents: Sheri Courchene-Peters (Peter), Leo Vandel and Coreen Oddie. During his youth, he was fostered by Shelley Peters (Doug), who shared in his growth until his teenage years. He was a proud brother to six siblings: Draven, Kavya, Jazz, Kate, Sheri, and Baby Kane. Dante will also be missed by his son Elijah, mother of his child Payton Bird, special aunty Andrea Peters, close cousins Chante and Harmony; along with numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Alexis Oddie, sister Kylie and grandfather George Spence.
Dante Peters was a bright light who lived with a hunger for the future and a heart that looked out for everyone around him. Known for his quick wit and his ability to fill a room with laughter, Dante was a natural jokester who truly enjoyed making others smile. Dante’s journey took him from the city of Winnipeg to the heart of Long Plain First Nation, where he grew up surrounded by a large, loving community. Dante was a student who took great pride in his accomplishments. After attending Long Plain School through grade 8, he moved on to PCI, where he found a true passion for cosmetology. He was consistently proud of himself for earning high credits and for having the courage to dive headfirst into his courses. Beyond the classroom, Dante was a creator. He expressed his unique perspective through music, sharing his original tracks on YouTube for the world to hear. Whether he was camping under the stars or spending quality time with friends in Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie, Dante approached life with an outgoing energy that was hard to miss. Dante’s presence was felt deeply by many, from the streets of his hometown to the halls of the Portage Hospital. He will be remembered not just for his "hunger for the future," but for the way he cared for those in the present. He was a protector, a musician, a student, and—above all—a beloved son, grandson, brother and nephew. To Dante, family was everything.
"His laughter was a gift, his music was his voice, and his love for his family was his foundation."
