David "Dave" Bourne

November 17, 1949 — April 5, 2018

Peacefully, on Thursday, April 5th, 2018, Dave Bourne passed away after a brief illness, with his family by his side at the Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 68 years. Dave will be lovingly remembered by his wife Allison Bourne along with his daughters Morgan, Jessica, and Shannon, in addition to numerous other family members and friends.

Dave will be remembered as a fun-loving and friendly man, who could light up any room with his abundance of stories and his witty sense of humour. He may have been cheated out of years, but he certainly was not cheated out of life. He always lived his life to the fullest and wrote his own rules.

Dave was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, and grew up in an air force family. His travelling started at a young age as a result of his family being posted in different cities around the world. A highlight for Dave growing up was living with his family in Metz, France and having an opportunity to play baseball there.  In his late teens, Dave himself joined the Royal Canadian Navy to pursue another great adventure.

Sports played a very important role in Dave’s life, whether it be playing or watching them. He greatly enjoyed playing sports with his friends, including hockey, baseball, football and golf throughout his entire life. As Dave got older, his family became a prominent part of his life. His sporting interests shifted to being a spectator and coach for his daughters.

This past year, Dave retired after over 40 years of working for the Provincial government. Dave could always be recognized around the city as he rode his bike to work every day for many years.  Even though his retirement was short, he was able to fill his time with once in a lifetime adventures. He spent his time doing the things he loved with the people he loved; golfing with his buddies, hanging out by the pool, visiting his daughter in Thailand for a month, and fulfilling a lifelong dream of his to watch baseball Spring training in Arizona.

The family wants to express their appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Health Sciences Centre MICU, who provided care to Dave prior to his passing. The family also wants to thank relatives, friends and neighbours for their outpouring of support that has been shown during this difficult time.

A celebration of Dave’s life will take place on Friday, April 13th at 2:00 p.m. at the St. James Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 4) located at 1755 Portage Avenue. A private internment will take place in the Oakville Cemetery later this month.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Dave’s memory to his late brother-in-law’s charity, Growing Support for Cancer, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.

A tree will be planted and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com 204-857-4021
