It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Deidre Dionne Thomas, aged 38 of Long Plain and Cross Lake First Nations, who passed the night of July 2, 2026.
She will be lovingly remembered by her parents Darrel Meeches and Delores Thomas; grandmother Phyllis Myran; sisters Tamar, Dsani and Dsanta; brothers Jesse, Tyson and Teagon; paternal aunts and uncles Dennis (Michelle), Derek (Cheryl), Harley, Craig, Kevin, Wanda, Priscilla (Jed), Anita (Robbie), Tanya; maternal aunts and uncles Jennifer (Donnie), Malcolm (Lisa), Alex, Al, Myrna, Vicki, Cindy and Joanne; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives.
She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents Louis and Louise Myran, Leslie Myran, Dorothy Meeches; maternal grandparents Tamar and Alexis Thomas; auntie Yvette Thomas; great grandmother Pricilla North and cousins Bronxton Myran, Desmond McKay, Mary Ellen Young and Bruno Young.
She was born in Portage la Prairie, MB on December 30, 1987. She lived in Long Plain First Nation as well as Portage la Prairie and Cross Lake First Nation. She attended PCI and graduated from the MSP Program at Cross Lake First Nation and was Valedictorian.
It was in Long Plain where she made her career in childcare and education. She worked with special needs children at Long Plain School.
Deidre was known for her loving and caring nature. All who knew her shared many laughs as she brought joy wherever she went. She loved food, she was an avid cook and beautiful singer. She was a wonderful caregiver to all the children she cared for in work and in life. She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends from the four directions.
Thank you to Long Plain Chief and Council, everyone who donated food and came to support the family during this difficult time.
Wake will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the Long Plain Spirit Lodge beginning at 4:00 pm. Feast and service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Long Plain Spirit Lodge beginning at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at the Dauphin Myerion Cemetery.
