Donald Webb

November 17, 1929 — December 7, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and accidental passing of Donald Rennie Webb of Portage la Prairie, MB on December 7, 2020 at the Portage District General Hospital.

Don was born on November 17, 1929 in Portage la Prairie to Olive and Clifford Webb. He was raised in the High Bluff District where he lived for many years. In 1953, he married Eileen Spiller and together they raised their 6 children. Don held many jobs over the years, but chose a career as a Psychiatric Nurse at the Manitoba Developmental Centre where he was employed after graduating from Nursing school in 1956. After 30 years of service, Don retired from MDC and returned to his farming roots to work part time for a few of the area farmers. He and Eileen spent numerous years as caretakers at Stephen's Apartments and Oak Tree Towers. He also delivered Meals on Wheels and worked as a Home Care Attendant. Don loved his family, helping his children in any way he could. He cherished his grandchildren and had a special place in his heart for his great-grandchildren. When his kids were growing up he served on the High Bluff school board, and in his later years was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Don was an energetic man who enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, travelling, camping and getting together with his coffee buddies.

Dad loved to dance and was well known and "almost famous" for performing the "Gumrubber Jig" (as he called it) any chance he got. People would clear the floor to watch in awe when he started to dance, and the louder we cheered the faster he would go! When the song was over he would take a bow, hitch up his pants, and with a big smile on his face walk back to his seat. Dad took his final bow at the age of 91 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his partner and best friend Sandra McConnell; sons Terry (Peggy), Rick (Jan), Bob (Karen), Scott (Wendy); daughter Traci (Tracey Spearing) and daughter-in-law Betty Ann Webb; grandchildren Ryan (Grace), Krista (Jeff Wazny), Ricky, Brittany (Alex Ketsman), Leanne, Kaylie (Matt Plett), Chad (Shalaine), Kara (Danny Revet), Bryant (Ali), Randi, Jayce, Tori (Shayne Sandney); great-grandchildren Matthew, Koen, Everett, Marcus, Dreyden, Harlee, Dallas, Walker, Kenna, Nixon, Jenna (Randy Blackman), Emilio, Keara, Daniel and Easton; sister Helen Borton and brother Walter (Johannes); sisters-in-law Linda Webb, Jean Spiller and Betty Ann Spiller as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was predeceased by Eileen, the love of his life and wife of nearly 60 years; eldest son Graham; granddaughter Melissa and great-granddaughter Jessica; siblings and their spouses Margaret (Ward Newell), Bill Webb, Norma (Kelly Smith) and Carol Webb; brothers and sisters-in-law Ron Borton, Marge (Roy Mallett), Cam Spiller, Joyce (Frank Coles), Doreen (George Dutka), Isabel (Les Korocil) and Lyle Spiller.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend our thanks to the paramedics, Dr. Ross and all of the staff who provided care for dad at PDGH.

In lieu of flowers and if friends so desire, donations in Don's memory can be made to Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
