Edward "Ted" Jordan

September 4, 1957 — August 21, 2022

Ted’s family is so very sad to announce that he lost a tough fight with cancer at the age of 64 at Portage District General Hospital. He was surrounded by his dearest family and friends during the last days of his life.

Ted was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on September 4, 1957 and grew up just west of Oakland on the family farm. He attended Rob Roy School, just a mile from his home. From there he went on to Fort La Reine, Yellowquill School, PCI and Red River College where he studied welding.

Ted found the love of his life in Lori Dawn in 1974 and never once looked back. He loved Lori with every fibre of his being. They married in 1978 and have two children – Tyson and Paula who he loved with all of his huge heart.

Teddy was a fisherman, hunter, golfer, curler, snowmobiler, biker and birder. After he retired he became much better at golf as he was out there on the course as much as he could be with his golfing buddies.  In the summer he always had a permanent golfing sandal tan. Ted has multiple Master Angler awards and loved his hunting trips for deer in Manitoba and elk in Alberta. His fishing and hunting adventures took him all over Manitoba and to Alberta and BC. Ted looked forward to the annual bird count twice every year. He was very knowledgeable about all the Manitoba birds and enjoyed spending his “bird counting” time with special friends. Ted and Lori travelled as much as they could while raising a family and working. Their trips took them to Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Florida, California, Arizona, Nevada, North and South Dakota, Indiana, Hawaii, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and many trips to Mexico.

Ted worked hard all his life – first on the family farm as a kid and after graduating from Red River College he briefly went to work at Motorcoach Industries in Winnipeg. From there he returned to Portage and worked at Gray’s Welding with his father-in-law then moved on to the City of Portage at the Waste and Water Treatment Plants.  In 1996 Ted went to work for McCain Foods as their Waste Water Supervisor where he stayed until his retirement in 2018.  While Ted was busy working at a full time job he was also an active member of the Portage la Prairie Fire Department. He loved his time with this dedicated group and made lifelong friends while he was helping to save lives and put out fires. Following his retirement from McCain Foods. Ted worked part time at Stride and loved his seasonal work on the farm with Kevin Yuill.

As his family and friends would agree, Ted was very well known for his story telling and great sense of humor.  He could tell the same joke over and over and each time had his audience laughing as hard as they had the first time. He was so funny but always kind. His stories will be sorely missed.

Lori and her family wish to send their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jim Price who was with Ted through every step of his end of life journey. His care and kindness for both Ted and his family will never be forgotten. The compassionate care Ted received in his last days by the health care staff at Portage District General Hospital is also much appreciated. Thank you.

Ted will be terribly missed by his dearly beloved wife Lori (nee Gray), son Tyson (Erin) and daughter Paula. Ted has two very special grandchildren he loved with all his heart – Violet and Tristan. He is survived by an older brother Dave Jordan (Lynnette) and sister Barb Jordan Henault (Roger) and sister-in-law Bev Wood.

Ted was an important and integral part of the lives of his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and special friends. His nieces and nephews include Michael (Heather) Jordan, Scott (Blake) Jordan, Brian (Tiffany) Jordan, Heather Henault, Gary (Victoria) Henault, Lynette (Murray) Barth, Kendra Wood, Vanessa Diemert 1979-2019 (Jamie), and Christopher Wood (Mayah). Ted was loved by 18 great nephews and nieces.

Ted’s Celebration of Life will take place at 1:30, Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Stride Place on Island Park, Portage la Prairie.  A private internment for family will be held at a later date.
