Peacefully, after long battle with Parkinson's Disease, Elizabeth “Liz” Hamilton passed away on May 12, 2026, with family by her side.
Left to cherish her memories and celebrate her life are her husband Bill, son Bryon, daughters Kim (Keith), Robin (JP), grandchildren Dayne (Jo), Tye (Jacob), brother David (Anne), and his children, Jordana (Anthony), Houston (Jenessa), and Dawson, niece Cynthia and her great niece, name sake, Zara Elizabeth. She was predeceased by her parents, Don and June Rennie, in-laws, Bill and Sophia Hamilton, brother Don Jr, and nephew Donny.
Liz was born August 6, 1949, in Toronto and spent her early years growing up with her brothers in the Ottawa area. In 1967, Liz's Dad was posted to Southport Manitoba and soon her future was written when she and Bill met at a dance, which would turn into a lifetime of laughter and adventure.
Over the course of the next seven years, she and Bill welcomed three children into their family. Six years after they welcomed their first child Liz decided to return to school and become a teacher. With support of her husband, Bill, Liz was able to juggle school, raise her kids, and was never short on time for her friends. Upon graduating in 1981, Liz accepted a full-time teaching position at High Bluff School, where she continued until a transfer took her to La Verendrye School in Portage la Prairie, where she taught until her Parkinson's forced her into early retirement.
Throughout her time in Portage, Liz was involved in many community activities, including volunteering and fundraising for local charities. She spent years as a member of the Portage Kinnette Club, where she served as President for a term. In her spare time, Liz's passion for story telling led her to Prairie Pens, where her dream of becoming a published author came to fruition.
Despite her challenges because of her Parkinson’s diagnosis, Liz spent the remainder of her days dotting on her grandchildren, where her love of writing was passed on to Dayne, and although, not known for her baking skills, she spent countless hours in her kitchen baking with her granddaughter, Tye.
The friends that Liz and Bill made during their time together, are a true testament of who she was, kind, strong, and loyal, these friends played a major role, especially in the last few years of her life with countless visits, and endless support, not only for Liz but for Bill and her children as well.
This is not good-bye, it is until we meet again, cheers to a beautiful soul. We Love You Mom.
