Ernest Lloyd Howard

Peacefully, with his family by his side, Ernest Howard passed away at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 82 years.

Ernie will be lovingly remembered by his children Kevin (Darlene) Howard, Darcy Howard, Brad (Denise) Sanderson, Sean (Loreen) Sanderson along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, sister Hazel Watson and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ernie was predeceased by his wife Doreen; parents Herb and Verna Howard; siblings Stan Howard, Betty Buchanan, Muriel Taylor, Ardel Ford, Doreen Hildebrand and Kathy Huben.

Ernie was born in Riding Mountain on November 12, 1942, he was the last of eight children and the second son born to Herb and Verna. He attended school in Neepawa and graduated from Red River College as a mechanic. He worked at Anglo Oil, from there to Campbell Soup until its closure. He finished his working career at Can Oat Milling. He raised two sons and following his marriage to Doreen in 1988 he gained two stepsons.

He was very generous with his time and helping others, whether gardening, or fixing lawn mowers to snow blowers and cars. He had a green thumb, especially his tomatoes. He shared his garden produce with family, friends and neighbours.

He was sick only for a short time and remained at home until he needed palliative care.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel at 11:00 am. Burial to follow at Hillside cemetery.
