It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom, Evelyn Higgins on April 1, 2026 at Douglas Campbell Lodge at the age of 93 years.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husbands Bill Higgins and Demetrice Sokolosky; siblings Edward Brook and Frederick Brook; children Dianne Lynne, Daniel, Blaine and Kathrine; great-grandson Haiden Anderson. She leaves to mourn her passing, children Allan (Shirley) Sokolosky, Terry (Ingrid) Sokolosky, Laurie Smith and Leanne Revet; sister Mae Kestirke; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Evelyn was born on January 7, 1933 in Portage la Prairie. She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Charlotte Brook. She attended Victoria School, moved to the family farm, and went to Gainsborough School. In 1949, she met Demetrice Solosky where they made a home and resided on the farm beside her parents. Evelyn and Demetrice raised 7 children in a 3-bedroom home. Her time was spent raising the family while dad worked. She taught and spent time with all and made every holiday and birthday extra special. Mom went on to having many hobbies, gardening, crocheting, knitting, and quilting, as well as many get-togethers with her friends.
Later in life, she and dad moved to High Bluff where she went out to work at a few jobs. She loved to sing, play accordion, danced and spend many days with kids and grandkids. Evelyn belonged to the Presbyterian Church, cooked at bible camp and eventually became an elder at the church.
She lived 12 years at Oddfellows Towers, where she made many friends. Coffee time was the best, and Saturdays was bingo day. Mom took sick January 2025 where she then resided in Gladstone, then to Douglas Campbell Lodge up until her passing.
The family would like to thank the staff at Gladstone and Douglas Campbell Lodge for the care and compassion they showed our mom over the past year.
