Florence Anne Dunwoody

(nee Blair)

It is with deep sorrow and sadness the families of Florence Dunwoody announce the passing of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on January 1, 2010. Florence touched the lives and warmed the hearts of many with her concerned, but gentle nature.

Born in Tyndall, Manitoba on March 13, 1918 where she obtained her education, leaving home for Winnipeg where she worked, met and married William Dunwoody in 1938. The family then moved to Dauphin, Manitoba in 1950 where she resided until 2002. She then moved to Portage la Prairie to be close to family and grandchildren. Florence resided at Regency House until her passing at the Portage and District General Hospital.

Our mother quickly became proficient at caring for her brood of six children, doing prodigious amounts of cooking, sewing and gardening. Our fondest memories were coming home from school to the smell of her cinnamon buns fresh from the oven. Some of mom's happiest times were spent fishing the Waterhen River with her husband, sister Lyla and brother-in-law Fred with the promise of fresh pickerel for the table and the freezer. Other happy times came from the summer vacation camping excursions with the kids.

Florence leaves six children Bruce Dunwoody (Pat), Maureen Christiansen, Joan Zwarich (Dennis), Shelley Dunwoody, Grant Dunwoody and Carla Robinson (Tony) as well as 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Raymond Blair; sisters Lyla Downey, Doris Robertson, Mildred McMannus, Inez Goyeau, Dorothy Johnson and Doreen Jardeen. She was predeceased by her husband William Dunwoody, her parents Emil and Selena Blair, brothers Armand and Cecil Blair and sister Elsie Johnson.

Viewing will be on Tuesday evening, January 5, 2010 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 2:00 pm in McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel led by Wilma Shirriff. Interment is to follow at a later date in the Dauphin Cemetery.

Florence will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
