Fredrick "Fred" Ross Beamer

Peacefully on June 16, 2026, Fred Beamer passed away at Douglas Campbell Lodge at the age of 93 years.

Fred was predeceased by his wife Irene St. Goddard (nee Peloquin), his children’s mother Marge Beamer (Nee Bereska), infant son Bradley Ross, step-sons Larry St. Goddard, Randy St. Goddard, Donny St. Goddard and step-great-grandson Matthew.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Mary Lynn Beamer and Cindy Lee McDermid, grandson Troy McDermid, great-grandchildren Hayley and Toby, step-children Daryl (Barb) St. Goddard, Terri Lee (Jim) Campbell and Tracey (Sheldon) Hordeski, step-daughters-in-law Karen St. Goddard (Shawn Harkness), Marilyn Bodie and Debbie St. Goddard, step-grandchildren Jennifer (Jason), Jeff (Glenda), Kris (Nina), Ian, Todd, Robin (Shae), Nick and Deidra (Jesse), seven step-great-grandchildren, two step-great-great-grandchildren … and his life-long friends that he considered family - Kevin and Iris Yuill and Barry and Marnie Rud … as well as his coffee, hockey and fishing buddies.

Fred was born in High River, Alberta. He joined the military in 1951 and was posted at CFB Southport. There he met and married Marge (1952) and they started their family together. He was posted at various locations and ended his military service back in Portage la Prairie. Fred possessed a strong work ethic, holding numerous jobs both before and after his time with the Forces. When he began his next career with the Agassiz Youth Centre, he also took on extra work during the fall months. A compassionate mentor, he retired from Agassiz in 1993.

Fred and Irene treasured nearly five decades together, marrying in 1996. Together, they ventured across Canada, south of the border (especially Grand Forks), and of course, Hawaii, where they wintered for thirty years. Whether retreating to their cabin in Waterhen or relaxing at their trailer in Clear Lake, so many happy hours were spent with their friends and family.

Fred loved to laugh and share stories of days gone by. There was not anyone he did not know! He thrived on connecting with others and had a knack for remembering everyone who crossed his path.

Fred never held back declaring his dislike for garlic … yet seemed blissfully unaware that Irene secretly snuck it into his favorite meals for years.

He was a passionate, lifelong supporter of the Portage Terriers. A life well lived … Fred will be sadly missed.

Viewing and Visitation will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Monday June 22, 2026, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred’s memory to the Portage and District Wildlife Fund or the Sheila and Rick Henderson Fund: Delta Marina both c/o the Community Foundation of Portage and District.
