Freida Jane Starr

After a long illness with COPD and Emphysema, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ms. Freida Jane Starr, born on March 6, 1952, in Swan Lake, Manitoba. Momma passed on September 14, 2026, with family by her side.

She was predeceased by her parents Gordon Myran and Angelina Esquash, and her husband Charles Starr.

Momma will lovingly be remembered by her first baby, Tracy Gowans (Robert), her baby boy, Timothy Myran, (Nikki) and her last baby, Tannis; special niece Lori-Jo, grandchildren: Justin, Rory, Brennan, Chloe, Aidyn, and Kingston.

Momma raised the three of us herself; she did one hell of a great job for being on her own and raising three children while working full-time. Momma worked in the sewing factory, in nursing homes, in the residential dorm of a school, and within the child welfare system as a Therapeutic Foster Parent. Momma made connection with the kids who were withdrawn, shy, and needed someone as a positive figure in their lives. Momma had so many kids she raised from Southeast Collegiate and later on with children-in-care.

Our family would like to thank the Brandon ICU unit for their kindness, caring, and compassion they used to take care of Momma during our difficult time.

Cremation has occurred. There will be no service; Momma’s wishes. Her ashes will be spread by the family at a later date.

Momma will be most certainly missed by her children and grandchildren; our hearts are forever broken but you told us not to mourn long for you. It pains us that you are no longer here with us, but we see you breathing well and shining above us, Momma. We Love You.
