Peacefully with family by her side, Frieda Meeches entered the spirit world on October 19, 2025 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 63 years.
Frieda will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children, son Eric, daughter Pricilla and son Milton; grandchildren Kieran, Caydan, Everlee, Andrea (Dorian), Triston, Samuel, Ashton, Kobe, Kingsley; great grandchildren Simon, Iris, Jermaine, Roman, Paris, Nirvana, Ariana; siblings, Daryl, Brenda, Sandra, Randal, Arlene, Sherry (Dean), sister in-law Margaret “Peggy” whom she really looked up to and cared for and several cousins whom she took as brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, from Long Plain, Swan Lake and Sandy Bay.
Frieda was predeceased by her granddaughters Jeanette Malcolm and Summer Meeches, mother Lena Meeches, stepfather Cecil Paul, father David McKinney, siblings Kerry, Kimbal, Sharon, Darren and Larry, maternal grandparents Ben and Jean Meeches, paternal grandparents John and Ida McKinney and many extended relatives.
Frieda was born in Portage la Prairie and grew up in Long Plain and several communities in Manitoba. Frieda was full of life, she loved to hang out with her friends and was very spontaneous and would up and decide to drive to the states or Ontario in a moment's notice. She loved to travel and to visit. Frieda had 2 dogs Max that passed away in March 2024, after Max passed away, she received Richie, anywhere she would go you would see these pups with her. She cared deeply about her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her family, she shared her worries and wishes for them. Frieda obtained her truck driving license which she was very much proud of, she worked in the states driving a truck which she enjoyed. She received her Mature grade 12 Diploma and First Nations Governance Diploma from Yellowquill College. Frieda was a traditional person and had plans to attend Sundance and becoming a Sundancer. She was fluent in her language, she was proud of her heritage and her community.
Traditional Wake will take place at Long Plain Spirit Lodge on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 4:00 pm. Traditional Feast and Service will be held at Long Plain Spirit Lodge on Saturday, October 25, 2025 beginning at noon followed by burial at the Dauphin Myerion Cemetery.
