A life filled with love and family
It’s with great sadness we announce the passing of Gary James Rasmussen on Sunday March 8, 2026 at Riverview Health Centre with family by his side.
Gary Rasmussen fought hard for many years to stay here with his true love, Family! Gary is now free from kidney cancer, the pain, dr appointments, treatments, side effects and all that came along with that fight to be with us as long as he possibly could. Gary had many goals in the last few months, one was to make it to his 54th Wedding Anniversary on February 26th and did just that. His love was unwavering and unending.
Gary is lovingly remembered by his soul mate, his wife of 54 years Barbara Rasmussen, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends. Son - Shane Rasmussen (Alaine): Samantha Rasmussen (Airel) Rhylynn, and Abel; Alic Rasmussen (Emelie). Jesse Rasmussen (Patience) Olive, and Orion; Reese Rasmussen. Son - Todd Rasmussen (Jenifer): Tyler, Cole, Alyssa, Dice, and Jessica. Daughter - Krista Staruch (Tony): Kelly and Tjay. Brother-Fred Johnson (Kim): Harley, Justin (Ashley) Scarlett. The Harrison Brothers and Sisters - Elaine Wilson (Murray), Melvin Harrison (Maxine), Cherlyn Cain (Dennis), Gordon Harrison (Janice), Kathy Campbell (Colin), Maureen Harrison and Susan Harrison; along with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Clayton Rasmussen, Bill and Phyllis Johnson, Charlotte and Elymer Harrison. Wayne Harrison and Elaine Harrison. Grandchild Stephanie Rasmussen and Great Grandchildren Greyson Trach and Daniel Warren.
We would like to thank Dr. Gingerich for his care over the years, he walked the walk with him. Dr. Hashmi and all the Drs and Nurses in Palliative Care who knew and helped with Gary’s care at home, St. Boniface Hospital and Riverview. Special thanks to the Pharmacists at Shoppers (His favourite store) who formed a bond with Gary.
A gathering to celebrate Gary’s life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church Starbuck Manitoba on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 2:00 PM. All are welcome!
