With heavy hearts we are sad to announce the passing of our Father, Brother, Papa, Uncle, Cousin and Friend after a brave fight with cancer. George “Sparky” Assiniboine entered the spirit world on July 1, 2026 at the age of 62 years. He was born on September 14, 1963, the first-born son to George Assiniboine Sr and Mederise Beaulieu.
George leaves to mourn his wife Darlene, children Syvannah (Junior), Elizabeth and Bradley (Jessie), grandchildren Sarayah, Shylee, Easton, Harmonie, Justice, Madden, Braxton, Roy, Cooper, Camden, Ava, Willa and RJ, 12 siblings Kathy (Suzie), late Joyce, Phyllis, Lorelei, Sharon, Beverly, Quincey, Shawna, Reginald, Benjamin, Alice (Bebe) and Annette (Tiny), along with numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Sparky lived the majority of his life in Long Plain First Nation where he held several positions such as fire chief, housing manager and proudly served 2 terms as a council member.
He relocated to Brandon with his partner Darlene of 14 years, where he was a professional truck driver and travelled all over Canada and North America. Dad recently moved back to Long Plain to be with his children and grandchildren because he loved them very much and was so proud of them all.
Sparky enjoyed playing all kinds of sports where he played as a competitive fastball player which took him to many places such as Cranbrook, BC where he played with McKay United. He also enjoyed curling, pool and in his earlier years playing hockey.
How he got his nickname “Sparky” is because the vehicle would not run without him and his mom, because his mom Mederise was the “battery” and Sparky was the “spark plug”
