Gertrude Noreen Pongoski

Noreen slipped away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Portage District General Hospital at the age of 86 years.

Left to treasure memories of her are her husband of 63 years, Ted; children Diane (Shane) Smith and Brett (Robin) Pongoski, grandchildren Greg (Veronica), Jill (Anthony), Maria, Lydia (Victor) and Gloria; great-granddaughter Amelia. She will be also missed by her brother-in-law Roger Pongoski, sister-in-law Joan Pongoski, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends

She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Gertie Owens, son-in-law Ken Brooking, brother Gerry Owens and sister-in-law Mary Ann Owens, brother-in-law George Pongoski, and sisters-in-law Sadie (Keith) Barker and Rose Pongoski.

Noreen enjoyed spending time with her family, and spent a lot of time with her grandchildren while they were growing up. She also enjoyed sewing and knitting, as well as playing old time music on the piano. She was part of a few different bands over the years, and in 2015 she was inducted into the Manitoba Fiddle Association’s Wall of Fame.

A Celebration of Noreen’s life will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 1:00 pm, led by Wilma Shirriff.  Private interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Noreen’s memory to Sunset Palliative Care Inc., Box 92, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3B2.
