Gordon A. Ebel

After a short illness with his family by his side, Gordon Ebel beloved husband of Helen passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, in the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 81 years.

Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his wife Helen; daughter Christine Ebel of Hamilton, ON.; son Michael (Karla) Ebel of Portage la Prairie, MB.; daughter Holly (Hugh) Hanly of Dunnville, ON.; grandchildren Andrea Tait-Eros and Taelore, Kelsey and Mackenzie Hanly; sister Marion (Walter) Thomas of Goderich, ON.; sister-in-laws Margaret (Don) Syms of Kitchener, ON., Jean Parker of Myrtle Beach, SC., and Susan (Ron) Karmel of Davie, FL.; brother-in-law Jim (Barb) Pogson of Stratford, ON. and many nieces, nephews and friends. Gordon was predeceased by his parents Herb and Marie Ebel.

Gordon was born on March 9, 1928 in Stratford, ON. In 1951 he married Helen Pogson and they raised their three children. Gordon joined the RCAF in 1946 and remained in the service until June, 1979, stationed across Canada. In 1979 he returned to Portage la Prairie and worked at MDC for 10 years as a Safety Officer before retiring. He was interested in all sports and played hockey and fastball. Gordon was active in all Concordant Bodies of York Rite Masonry for nearly 50 years; a Mason; member of Electa Chapter #2 Order of the Eastern Star and Past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of Manitoba OES in 2008-2009, he was also a Legion Member. His hobby of making diamond willow canes was enjoyed by many.

A Memorial Service will be held at McKenzie United Church on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 1:00 pm led by Rev. Marg Scott. Interment will take place at a later date inStratford, ON.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Gordon's memory to Manitoba Eastern Star Chalet, 525 Cathcart Street, Winnipeg, MB R3R 0S6 or Portage Animal Welfare Society Inc. (P.A.W.S. Inc) Box 1426; Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3N9 or charity of one's choice.
