Heather Kocuiba

March 6, 1968 — October 20, 2016

Heather Kris Kocuiba (nee Lambert)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Heather Kocuiba on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 48 years.

Heather will be lovingly remembered by her husband Rob, daughter Meagan Myrchak, step-son Cory Kocuiba, parents Rhoda and Trevor Lambert, brother Derek Lambert (Louise Valcourt), niece Callie and nephew Graham. Heather also leaves to mourn her passing her aunts and uncle Jean Welch and Ronald (Helen) West and cousins Jeffrey and Lauren, as well as her beloved pets Winnie and Cassie and many friends.

Heather was predeceased her grandparents Marjorie and Melvin Lambert and Lena and Hartley West.

Heather loved music and dancing. She took piano & dance classes all the years she was at home. Heather always said she felt really comfortable in school, and chose a career to reflect that. She received a B.A. from the University of Winnipeg, a certificate from Herzing College, and her Educational Assistant certificate and took a position with the Winnipeg School Division where she worked with recent immigrants and autistic children.  Heather’s biggest accomplishment was keeping her daughter Meagan, who is profoundly autistic, at home for 12 years before she was placed in a New Directions home.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the St. Mary’s la Prairie Anglican Church, Portage la Prairie, MB, with Rev. John Dolloff officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Heather’s memory to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 0R3.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  204-857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
