It is with great sadness that the family of Isabelle Smith (nee Zimmer) passed away at the age of 91 years of age peacefully on July 5, 2026, at the Lions Prairie Manor.
Isabelle will be lovingly remembered by her children; son, Don (Val) Smith of Portage la Prairie, grandson Jarrett (Cassidy), Portage la Prairie, daughter, Roberta (Ben) Hoogervorst of Wpg; grandchildren, Britta, Brett Hoogervorst and numerous other family members and friends.
Isabelle was predeceased by her parents, Tony and Anne Zimmer, siblings, Hilda Gushalak, Agnes Fizell, Harold Zimmer and Freda Zimmer, her husband Robert Smith and son William Smith.
Isabelle was born in Grenfell Saskatchewan on Oct. 11, 1934. Her family moved and ended up settling in the town of Neepawa, Mb. After completing high school Isabelle left for Winnipeg and pursued the profession of nursing at the St. Boniface Hospital. After completing her schooling she moved to Carrott River, Sask. Soon after that time she met the love of her life, a young man named Robert Smith from Cypress River. They were married in 1959 in Erickson, Mb. They had three children, William, Roberta and Donald.
The family moved to Winnipeg while Bob pursued his career with Mb Hydro. Isabelle carried on nursing at a care home in Wpg. After approximately 20 years when the children were grown, they moved to Carberry, MB on a small acreage. Bob and Isabelle then both worked in Brandon until they both retired. They both enjoyed retirement life in country. Isabelle was an avid gardener and spent countless hours in her vegetable and flower gardens while her dog, Lady watched over her. She spent her indoor hours painting landscapes with watercolor and oils making many paintings, some of which were illustrated in local and Brandon city art shows. She also loved to knit in her spare time and bake.
Over the last 11 years of her life, Isabelle lived at the Oddfellows towers and made many friends. After a brief illness in the hospital during the month of June, she moved to Lions Prairie Manor for one month prior to her passing peacefully on July 5, 2026.
Isabelle’s lovely, good nature and sense of humor will live on in our hearts and memories forever. We are all very grateful for the time spent with her.
A private family celebration will be held in honor of Isabelle’s life.
Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to PAWS of Portage la Prairie, MB.
A tree will be planted and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
