Jacob Braun

Jacob T. Braun, was born May 31, 1945 in Winkler, MB. He passed away on Tuesday March 1, 2022 at Portage General Hospital with his loving wife, Lena by his side.

He was born to Isaac & Kathrina Braun and spent most of his growing up years on the farm between Gladstone and Austin. Dad was baptized upon confession of his faith at the Reinland Mennonite Church adjacent to the farm.

He and mom knew each other growing up as kids. In 1965 the twinkle became a diamond and on May 28, 1967 they were wed by Rev. Peter Loeppky. They started their married life in Portage la Prairie, then moved to Winnipeg, MB.

In 1968, their first born daughter, Dolores Marie, arrived. Then they moved to Sydney, MB in 1970 and their second child, Dennis Jacob, was born. In 1971 they moved to a tiny 680 square foot home in Winkler, MB. In 1972 he started his apprenticeship to become an electrician. In 1973 another daughter, Roxanna Lynn arrived and in 1975 Norman Wayne was born.

In June 1978 they left Winkler with their family in search of greener pastures and moved to their beautiful farm in MacGregor, MB where they had a hobby farm on 7 acres. We had chickens, cows, a couple of pigs and many cats and a few dogs.

In the early 1980’s his electrical business was founded. In October of 1980, their last son, Timothy John, was born. They stayed and raised their family on the farm until August 2021 when they moved into town due to Dad’s declining health.

He was predeceased by his parents and his grandson, Tyler Ashton Jefferey Denning on Jan 12, 2020.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lena (Unrau), children Dolores (Joe), Dennis (Audrey), Roxanna, Norman and Timothy (April), 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. These grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the greatest joys in his life.

Viewing and Devotional will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 7:00 pm at the MacGregor Sommerfeld Mennonite Church.

Funeral service will be held at MacGregor Sommerfeld Mennonite Church on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 1:00 pm with internment following at the Sommerfeld Cemetery in Austin, MB.
