James Longclaws entered the Spirit World on January 2, 2024 at the Douglas Campbell Lodge in Portage la Prairie, MB at the age of 73 years.

James is survived by his sisters Josephine Longclaws and Shirley Longclaws of Long Plain First Nation, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Jessie (Desjarlais) Longclaws and siblings Walter, Phillip, Johnny Jr., Clements, Phyllis, Lilian, Maryanne, Agnus, Norman and Francis Longclaws.

James was born in Portage la Prairie, MB on December 19, 1950. He grew up and spent most of his life in Long Plain. He worked various jobs all over, and on various colonies in Manitoba. He was always on the go travelling in his younger years. Although James didn’t have children of his own, he considered his nephews and nieces “his children”. James will be lovingly missed by family and friends.

Wake will take place on Monday, January 8, 2024 at the Long Plain Spirit Lodge beginning at 4:00 pm. Feast and Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at noon at the Long Plain Spirit Lodge, followed by burial at Long Plain Cemetery.
