Janice Dawn Carefoot (nee Watson)

January 16, 1955 — August 17, 2023

It is with sadness we announce Janice Carefoot passed away peacefully after a brief illness, with her family by her side, on August 17, 2023 at Portage District General Hospital at the age of 68 years.

Janice is lovingly remembered by Jim Carefoot, her loving husband of over 47 years, siblings Phil Watson (Patti Ingram) and Helen (Len) Roy, nephews Dan (Elaine) Roy, Michael (Jody) Roy, David (Kathleen) Roy and their families, Jim’s siblings and their families.  She was predeceased by her parents Al and Verna Watson.

Janice was born January 16, 1955 and lived all of her life in the Portage la Prairie area.   She graduated as an LPN, later completed her RN and nursed at Portage District General Hospital for over 40 years in rehab, surgical and palliative care.  She is fondly remembered by the many nurses and hospital staff she worked with for her dedication, excellence and high standards of care. After retirement, she worked for several years in home care in Portage la Prairie.  She was an active volunteer with Sunset Palliative Care, the Portage Soup Kitchen and assisting Ukranian refugees.

As an avid gardener, Janice took great pride in sharing her expertise and the fruits of her labour with others.  With Jim, she was a passionate Terriers fan, a member of the Vintage Cruisers car club and enjoyed many happy weekends together camping with friends.  Janice had a passion for pets her entire life and will be missed by their two cocker spaniels Petey and Cooper.

As per her wishes, a private family service will be held.  Interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Garden Columbarium.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Janice’s memory to Sunset Palliative Care - Box 92, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3B2.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
