Jean Meeches

(nee Myerion)

Born in Long Plain First Nation, peacefully entered the Spirit world on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Lions Prairie Manor in Portage la Prairie, MB.

Jean will be lovingly remembered by sister Helen Myerion, sons Wally, Raymond (Leona), daughters Lena (Cecil), Delores, Phyllis (Les), all of Long Plain and sister-in-law Lena Myran of Winnipeg, 40 grandchildren, 131 great-grandchildren, and 96 great-great-grandchildren.

Jean was predeceased by husband Benjamin Chaske Meeches, sons Mervin and George, daughters Gladys and Dorothy Meeches, brothers Harry and Gordon Myerion, sisters Eliza McKinney of Swan Lake First Nation, Lucy Walker and Flora Merrick all of Long Plain First Nation, Grandchildren, Karen (Cookie) Peters (age 25), Kimball (age 13), Sharon (age 29), Maurice (age 25), Farrell (age 29), Debbie (age 51), Riley (age 8), Sherman Jr. (age 22), Dennis (age 30), and many great-great grandchildren too numerous to mention.

Jean attended the Portage Residential School and lived in Long Plain all of her life. She married Benjamin Chaske Meeches and raised her family of seven on the Long Plain First Nation. She enjoyed her Bingo, gardening, baking, cooking and picking berries. She was a traditional Pow-Wow dancer and loved to travel the Pow Wow trail in her younger years. She also enjoyed fostering her nine grandchildren. Jean enjoyed singing "Amazing Grace" while she cooked and baked. She strongly believed in the traditional way of life.

Wake was held on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 5:00 pm at the Spirit Lodge in Long Plain First Nation. Traditional Feast and Funeral Service was held on Thursday, August 26, 2010 beginning at 12:00 noon at the Spirit Lodge in Long Plain First Nation, led by Esther Cameron of Long Plain First Nation. Interment will take place at Dauphin Myerion Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Jean's great-grandsons- Eric Meeches, Trever Meeches, Courtney Meeches, Dallas Roulette, Ryan Meeches, Chris Meeches, Aaron Myran and Mervin Meeches.

We would like to thank all staff who cared for our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother at the Lions Prairie Manor on the Parkside Ward.
