John James Finbow

We are saddened to announce the passing of John in the early hours of December 11, 2025, after a brief illness.

John was well remembered by anyone who was lucky to have had the chance to meet him throughout the years. John made sure that his presence was known wherever he was.

Born and raised in Winnipeg to parents Ida and George, John faced a few challenges throughout his life. In 1963, John moved to the Manitoba Developmental Centre, where he spent many years making an impact on many staffs lives. In 2024, John moved out to “his new house” and was supported by New Directions until his passing. Often when John was around town, many people stopped to say hi to him, which always made him so happy.

John was predeceased by his parents, stepmother, and many friends he made throughout the years, including one of his roommates, Ken. He will be remembered by his cousin Marilyn, with whom he had a very close family connection; his roommate Les and all of his friends, peers and staff at New Directions.

It’s not a goodbye, it’s a “Bye buddy!”

Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel at 1:30 pm.  The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed by registering at the link below. Interment will follow in the Spring at St. Mary's Cemetery, Winnipeg.
