John Petkau
Peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 John Petkau passed away at his home at the age of 86 years.
Lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Ellie; sons Randy (Melody), Brent (Christine), Mark (Cindy) and Chris; grandchildren Jena, Jonathan (Crystal), Josh, Rachel, Ben and Haley; foster children Cathy, Derelda and Irene; brother George Petkau; sisters Natalie Janzen and Helen Martens and many nieces and nephews.
John, also known as “Dutchie” moved to Newton at the age of two years. He then farmed the same property in the Wingham District for 84 years and enjoyed his many wonderful friends and neighbors. He really loved raising cattle, his many cats, gardening, carpentry, hockey, photography, building picture frames for Ellie and riding his 45 Harley Davidson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Newton Community Fellowship Church, 3 miles south of Newton at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at the Oakville Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in John’s memory the Youth for Christ Memorial Fund, 60 Tupper St. N, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 1W8.
